驿殿 Range Palace
The Range Palace is a mobile house product for immersive experience in nature and an eco-friendly living solution that can be fast assembled and dismantled without leaving any trace on sites. It is a product prototype that can adapt to different site conditions through composing different modules including living, sleeping and bathroom functions. The whole house is fully prefabricated and pre-assembled into structural frames, which can be craned to position on a steel base within a day. The hybrid structural systems, i.e. the bamboo frames, steel base and membrane roof are interconnected to form a reciprocal structural entity which ensure very light appearance by reducing the material mass. The transparent double-glazing Low-e facade ensures the openness to the surrounding nature, while keeping great thermal resistance together with the tensile canopy, which forms a double layered roof and keeps the house constantly in the shadow during summer.

New Material – Directional Recombination Bamboo (DRB)
Bamboo is a fast-growing, renewable, and easy-to-grow material that requires zero chemicals and pesticides with powerful thermal insulation quality. DRB is made out of laminated bamboo fibers, as a result, it has exceptional material toughness and resistance to shearing, twisting and bending forces, close to steel. So, it has another nick name, i.e. Bamboo Steel, much tougher than wood while much lighter than steel. So, we chose it for the primary inhabitable structural frame in order to achieve warm outlook with great structural and thermal performability.

Re-adopt Traditional Carpentry
Learning from the merits in Traditional Carpentry Architecture, we applied the mortise and tenon joints for a number of benefits. Firstly, it is totally reversible, easy to be assembled and dismantled. Secondly it is a discretization of structure with greater resistance to complex forces by natural disaster such as earthquake and typhoon. This property is rather important as the bamboo frames can survive through lifting and dropping during shipment. Thirdly it has no thermal bridge as no steel joineries are inserted. It is entirely depending on how the bamboo sections are chiseled and drilled.
